HUNGARIAN DESIGN AWARD 2017
Following a tradition, an award ceremony will be held also this year to present the best of last year in the Hungarian design scene. The grant that has represented the most prestigious recognition in the profession for almost 40 years, along with the annual award announced by the Minister of National Economy, primarily aims to call market actors’ attention to the competitive potential offered by the creative industry, and to present the outstanding achievements of national innovation to a broader audience. As the notion of design keeps changing and is gathers complexity, the event offers a comprehensive overview of the trends representing the present and projecting the future of the design scene. Similarly to the previous years, the panel awarded products that represent a high added design value, are innovative, competitive, and meet international expectations, in addition to becoming an indispensable part of our everyday environment.
DESIGN MANAGEMENT AWARD 2017
The strategic application of design today is proved to increase competitiveness and is regarded by market actors as a profitable investment. The Hungarian Design Council founded the Design Management Award as a means to recognise the organisations that set an example by using the inventory of design and design-minded thinking, which has become an integral part of their operations also at the level of decision-making processes. This recognition may motivate organisations and institutions by showcasing good practices, while offering an exciting glimpse into the secrets of corporate success to those interested. In addition to the four awarded companies, four other organisations that have received certificates of recognition are also presented at the exhibition.

After appearing in Tate Modern in London, young French-Hungarian visual artist Dániel Labrosse returns to Budapest to present his new material using AR (augmented reality). He uses multiple techniques in his thematically connected colourful illustrations: painting, computer graphics and traditional animation are combined with augmented reality, in which he partners with Etentuk Udeme.
This year, the theme of Nedill food design’s event is life hidden in seeds, which finds its way yet in most difficult places. Designer Zsuzsi Matók combines the experiences of movie set making and food styling with design thinking, where aesthetical experiments meet unusual, edible ingredients.
How do busy working days pass in an architecture office? BORD Architectural Studio team members will share it with you. What is more, some inside information will also be revealed: office founder Péter Bordás tells about completed projects that have remained hidden from public view so far – and more well-known works will also be addressed, such as Nagyerdei Stadion or Korda Filmpark.
Caracalla Design Days 2017 is an exclusive event and the only exhibition of interior design in Hungary where selected leading brands are presenting their exciting innovations for the top local designers, the press and the general public. Brands like Villeroy & Boch, Duravit and others will also exhibited.
The Cellux Group has pursued design, and has organised workshops ondesign methodology and creative sessions since 2006. During Budapest Design Week, little ones and adults visiting the studio may peek into the everyday work of the group, while the audience is welcome to participate in thematic programmes on two Sundays.
An open week in KÉK: meet the teams of the co-working office, including Nanavízió and Batlab architectural studios, orbrowse the pop-up bookshops of Lars Müller publishing house. During the week, you will have an opportunity to try the feeling of working inthe KÉK co-working office, and further exciting programmes will await you in the evenings.
This year, too, KUBIK community office is offering special events for the visitors. There will be an exposition of pieces by contemporary designers, organised by mutargy.com, a movie night, and interesting workshops.
Danish Design Award is the highest recognition to be earned by designers, manufacturers, products or services in Denmark. The prize is awarded jointly by Design Denmark and Danish Design Centre, putting into the limelight the solutions that did the most for society each year. The exhibition presents the finalists and winners of the Danish Design Award in 18 categories through tableaux and detailed descriptions, offering a comprehensive review of the latest achievements of Danish design.
CANCELED: The exhibition will be complemented by two talks, where Design Denmark and its activities will be presented by Mr. Heinrik Weiglin, CEO of Design Denmark, and Ms. Pil Bredahl, leading designer of the institution.
Cool finnish designers will show their products and artworks at Bartók Béla Boulevard – study or buy them in this pop-up store. Gallerys and shops at Bartók Béla street will also create a special installation made of recycling designed things, in collaboration with great artists.
They say that one should not translate hygge but feel it. Drop by at MONO art&design and indulge yourself in the Danish cuisine á la Szimply. On the occasion of the Design Week the shop also teamed up with Kontakt for a pop-up café, where baristas will be brewing Danish coffee La Cabra, which you can also purchase on the spot.

The modern and trendsetting, nevertheless everyday functional skandinavian pieces will give you a special treat in the interior created at the Solinfo Atelier.
